My 2024Q3 option strategy results are in! I was able to eke out a positive quarter but it was tougher than the last few quarters. Here are some of the places where I was able to make some money and lost some money in other areas.
I ended my 2024Q3 with a gain of $2904. I won’t lie, this was a tough $2904! I invested into NFLX, META, MSFT, and NVDA. It wasn’t all sunshine to say the least.
Netflix
My option picks for options were NFLX241220C00620000 and NFLX240906C00630000 and I was able to get some gains on the December call option but I lost on the September call options. My net was a loss of $292. My impatience got to me a little bit because if I had held it longer I would have made some money, I think. You always have to balance the time loss of the option with the gain of the stock but NFLX has increased a lot in just the last few months. They can’t all be winners!
Meta
META was my big hit for this quarter. I was able to net $2829 and the Meta bump did work again this quarter. The contract I bought was META241220C00440000 I was able to take advantage of good earnings and a price pop of about $40 in stock price. Not much to add because my estimates on a good Meta earning results worked well!
Microsoft
Microsoft was a tough hold again. I again eked out a profit of $213 but it took several weeks. The 6 weeks of holding took a while. Microsoft did have a good earning report but as you see the market was a bit skeptical of the results. The stock price as of today seems to show more positive thoughts from Wall Street.
Nvidia
Nvidia was a struggle this year and it’s reflective in the stock price over these many weeks. NVDA got really low and I was deep in the hole for several weeks. I did decide to buy a longer duration option because this has happened to me in the past where NVDA seems to linger and do nothing for a while. The 2 options I bought were NVDA250117C00119000 and NVDA250221C00121000. After 7 weeks of holding I was able to get a small profit for a total gain of $445. It was hard fought. Nvidia keeps having these blow out profits but “astronomical” just doesn’t appease Wall Street anymore.
Vistra and VRT
Vistra has recently shown up on my feed as the biggest climber of the S&P 500 and I’ve been taking a look at it recently. VRT also has recently seen a pop. I’ve recently added Vistra to my “fun stock” portfolio to see where it goes but I ignored VRT and missed out on an opportunity there….oh well. We shall see where VST goes!
